“Can You Do This?” How Your Questions Drive Our Retail Management Software Improvements

By 27/07/2025No Comments

At Velocity, creativity and software updates don’t just happen in a boardroom. In fact, it often starts with the questions our customers ask.

They’re usually not some grand, complicated questions either, most the time they’re just simple, practical ones like:

“Can I tag allergens faster?”

“Will this barcode scanner work with your system?”

“Can I export customer birthdays to run promos?”

Believe it or not, these everyday questions are exactly what fuel the changes we make at Velocity. Every “can you do this?” is a chance for us to improve our software, not just for you, but for everyone using it.

The power of a simple question

Here’s how it works: You raise a question with our support team. We log it, talk about it with the devs, and figure out if we can build a solution that fits your need and helps others like you. If it makes sense (and it usually does!) it gets scoped, tested, and shipped. Because at the end of the day, we firmly believe that no one knows better what our customers need than our customers!

Some cool features that came straight from our customers

Here are a few examples of things we’ve added or improved because of questions and requests from users like you:

Barcode Scanner Compatibility

A few stores asked if their existing barcode scanners would work with Velocity. We made it happen, so they didn’t have to buy new gear.

Easier Allergen Tagging

Labelling allergens was taking longer than it should, so we simplified the whole process. Now it’s quick and painless.

Bulk Price Editing

Changing prices one by one was a drag. Thanks to requests from users, we built a bulk edit feature to save loads of time.

Why keeping things moving forward matters

Velocity isn’t a “set it and forget it” kind of platform. We’re always tweaking, improving, and adding new things. That’s the beauty of agile development, we don’t leave you stuck with version 1.0.

You’re the ones using it every day, dealing with real customers and busy shifts. So when you tell us what’s missing or what could be better, it helps us make Velocity work harder for you.

Here’s a real-life example:

A deli asked if they could export customer birthdays from the CRM so they could send out birthday promos. That wasn’t a thing before, but after we heard them, the feature was built and rolled out within a month. Now lots of other shops use it to keep customers coming back.

How you can help shape the software

You don’t need to be a tech expert to make a difference. If you spot something annoying or have a cool idea, just speak up.

Here’s how to get the ball rolling:

1. Keep a list of gripes and ideas

Jot down anything that slows you down or feels clunky. Those notes are so helpful to us when you reach out.

 2. Don’t wait to share feedback

The sooner you tell us, the sooner we can look at it.

3. Ask about timelines

Wondering if your idea is on the radar? You can just ask us! We’re happy to give you a sense of when things might happen.

You don’t have to explain in fancy terms or build a business case. Just tell us what’s tricky or what you wish the system could do. We’ll figure out the rest.

Final thoughts

So next time you’re using Velocity and think, “Can you do this?”, simply ask away. That one question could be the start of something new.
